Equipments
Many people think of Pilates as a type of exercise mat. What they may not know is the Pilates studio and specialized equipment that Joseph Pilates invented nearly a century ago. This same equipment is still used today in many traditional Pilates studios
Here are ten must-know facts about Pilates equipment and its many benefits:
Joseph Pilates and his wife Claire immigrated to the United States in the early 1920s. In 1926, they founded a studio teaching body conditioning methods, later named control. The studio has a variety of devices (called Joseph Pilates equipment) designed to improve his rehabilitation work. His work and studio quickly became very popular with professional dancers and choreographers, who found that this approach helped them cope with injuries and improve their technique.
Traditional exercises include:
- Reformer
- Cadillac (trapeze table)
- Wunda chair
- Ladder barrel
All of these devices, despite some minor modifications, are still used today in traditional Pilates studios around the world.
